The International Euphonium Institute 2006 - Debrief
Welcome to this page that provides some photos and commentary from IEI 2006. The year was another smashing success and we had 45 participants. IEI has tripled in size since its first year in 2004 and I am so thrilled with the level of playing and energy of the participants.
Also a HUGE thank you to our Sponsors for IEI 2006: Yamaha, Besson, Miraphone, Woodwind and Brasswind, Willson, the Georgia Brass Band, and Emory University!! To view or download the PDF versionof the IEI Program, Click Here!!
Also a big thank you to Terry Paananen (most of those on this page) and Janet Frey for their photos.

The big ensemble 45+ strong!! What a joy to conduct this group.

Adam Frey, Brian Bowman, Steve Call, and Tormod Flaten

Steve Call and Joe Jensen perform "A Closer Walk"

Adam and our International Guest for 2006 - Tormod Flaten...amazing player, teacher, and friend.

A picture of the tour bus for the IEI concert in Alpharetta. It also transported us to my house afterwards for some ice cream that many players enjoyed very much...

Isn't that correct Dr. Bowman?

Looks like good ice cream boys!!
One of the greatest aspect of the IEI is the premiere of new works and their exposure. We were lucky enough to have a new work by Anthony Plog, Three Songs, that was premiered by Adam Frey as well as a number of new arrangements by Pat Stuckemeyer of Fantasie Originale for soloist and brass quintet (soon to be available on this site)

A little fun social time for Jamie Lipton, Brett Keating, Donald Bruce and Travis Pruitt

The IEI Teaching Assistants for 2006 were Martin Cochran, Ryan Black, Mark Carlson, and Chris Buckley. They worked very hard during the week and gave a great effort and helped make the week an excellent experience for all. Thanks guys!!

Karen Mullins, my big helper for the week, helped with the students and organization and helped me keep my sanity!!

And of course my best helper, my wife Janet.

Another highlight was performing in Emerson Concert Hall with the new $2,000,000 Jaeckel Organ. We paired 45 euphoniums and tubas with this majestic instrument to perform the Adagio from the Saint Saens Organ Symphony.
WHAT A SOUND!!

Dr. Bowman educating Martin Cochran.

Terry and Maggie hanging after the final concert.

You should be practicing....

A relaxing moment at a recital intermission.

Conducting the mass ensemble on Loch Lomond.

On the Gala Concert with the Band of the US Air Force Reserve, Meldoy Shop received a proper performance by John Caputo (in uniform), Tormod Flaten and Adam Frey

Here we are working hard through all those runs!!

Adam performing The Willson Suite with the Air Force Band. Lt. Chad Steffey conducting.

Oh the light hearted fun...I am not sure how this works out, but Brett and Tim are from Wisconsin!!

And the talents of AJ Miller!!

A great view of the organ in Emerson Concert Hall with the IEI Massed Ensemble

Our friends from Holland, Ohio, Wisconsin/Minnesota, and Colorado!!

An after concert gathering at Taco Mac!! That is Buckley and Leah near the end.

Girls looking relaxed now that it was all over...except the 4:45 airport run!!
