Special Guests and Staff

| The Georgia Brass Band was founded in 1999 by a group of Atlanta-area brass players eager to explore the challenging repertoire for British-style brass band. The band performed its first concert after just a few months and has maintained an active schedule ever since. The mission of the band is twofold: the band allows talented area musicians the opportunity to hone their individual and collective skills through rehearsals and concerts, and the band introduces local concertgoers to this exciting genre of brass music. In April, 2006 the band traveled to Louisville and made its first appearance in the annual North American Brass Band Association competition. The band’s performance earned it First Place in the Challenge Section and drew accolades and rave reviews from all present. The correspondent from 4barsrest.com, England’s leading brass band website, said “One of the highlights of the contest had to be the debut of the Georgia Brass Band. Whilst we knew they had some fine players and a good music director, we had no idea they would be as dominating as they were.” Douglas Yeo, editor of Brass Band Bridge, reported that “…the Georgia Brass Band roared into Robinson Theater with an outstanding and commanding performance…establishing itself right away as a major force in the North American brass banding world.” In 2007 at NABBA, the band garnered a Runner-up Prize in the Honors Section. Future plans for the Georgia Brass Band include a commercial recording, a mentoring partnership with a new youth brass band being formed in the area, and a return visit to the brass band competition. We will also maintain our usual local performance schedule. Please visit the band’s website at www.georgiabrass.com to keep with all pertinent band information. |
