Freedom is something that gets thrown out on the regular by people from every political background. Freedom from oppression, choice, culture, ect. All of these freedoms are mostly based around some sort of societal expectation that other people should not be able to tell you who you are, what to do, and how to live your life. For the purpose of this piece I would like to define freedom is the ability to move freely without any obstruction by any outside force. The wind is free, due to its ability to pass around and over large obstacles that get in its path. If wind wants to move forward, it will do so without any regard to what is around it. It is invisible, relentless, and does what it wants when it wants. The waves are free for a similar reason, but in many ways quite a bit different. The waves are controlled by the gravity of the moon. They move in a different pattern that is tied to the shape of the earth, and the time of day. The mass and visibility of the waves is what makes it truly free. While we might be able contain a small portion of the waves in a confined space, regardless of how much water we remove from the equation they will keep on going. Waves are massive, dangerous, and beautiful. Finally the Web (internet) is the most abstract. The Web is Free in a similar way to the wind due to its anonymity. While many of us create a fairly public persona, there is a dark underbelly of the web that is nearly lawless. We can say whatever we want under this guise from a societal perspective, and the consequences are nearly meaningless.
All of these things are unique in how they interact with the world and people. All of them are freer then any single individual. There are varying amounts of freedom that anyone can have. If you are a person with a lot of privilege, you have freedoms that someone without those privilege gets to enjoy. Remember that you are lucky to have the freedom that you enjoy. Any of the Wind, the Waves, or the Web can ruin that freedom. Be thankful, and help uplift those with less freedom than you.
