Ponchielli - Concerto per Flicorno Basso

One of the very few original works conceived for the valved tenor brass instrument (called a flicorno basso in Italian) before 1900.  Ponchielli's work is a large scale tour-de-force for the euphonium.  It has tremendous technical demands for the soloist, although they stay firmly grounded in E-flat major.  A long introduction leads to a wonderful theme that is followed by more and more complicated variations.  This is a highly recommended work.
